Overview of Position
To lay out, fit and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms for use within the Company.
Requirements
- At least five (5) subjects CXC, inclusive Math & English.
- At least two (2) years relevant experience.
- Certification in welding/Fabrication
- Experience with parts will be an asset.
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities
Lay out, position and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers and ruler.
Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies using electric, gas, arc or other welding equipment.
Cut work pieces using powered saws, hand shears or hacksaw.
Melt lead bar, wire or scrap to add lead to join or to extrude melted scrap into reusable form.
Monitor and manage the Service Departments consumable inventory.
Install or repair equipment such as lead pipes, valves, floors and tank linings.
Observe tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatics and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
Inspect grooves, angles or gap allowances using micrometre, calliper and precision measuring instruments.
Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions.
Heat, form and dress metal parts using hand tools, torch or arc welding equipment.
Ignite torch and adjust valves, amperage or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
Analyse engineering fabrication drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly and welding operations.
Determine required equipment and welding method applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry and welding techniques.
Ensure all tasks and activities are conducted following the company’s established safety standards and procedures.
